Since more than 40 years RFconcepts (formerly ETO) from Boulder/Colorado (USA) develops and manufactures shortwave amplifiers and other accessories for radio amateurs and radio stations. The legendary quality and reliability has made the 'Alpha' Amps a dream of every radio amateur.
On this page you will find:
Alpha 9500
The Alpha 9500 is a fully automatic amplifier for all shortwave bands. The maximum output power is approx. 1500 Watt. The amplifier uses a single 3CX1500A7 (8877) tube. The 3CX1500A is a very solid ceramic terode with a maximum anode plate dissipation power of 1500W.
Due to the automatic tuning, operating the Alpha 9500 is extremely simple and comfortable. The amplifier tunes automatically when keyed on a new frequency. Per band 5 measurement points can be stored and quickly recalled when using that frequency again. These measurement points can (and should) be adjusted by the user at initial operation of the amp. Two separate storage banks allow easy selection of different operating situations, for example when at home and at a contest site.
The Alpha 9500 has four antenna connectors, which can be assigned per band or per one of five measurement points per band. With this feature the antenna selection becomes automatic, even for multiple antennas within one band. The keying input can be used by most current transceivers, without an additional PTT keying relay. The amplifier uses vaccum relays and supports FullBK (QSK) traffic in telegraphy.
Numerous protection devices of the Alpha 9500 prevent damages of the amplifier, either by malfunction or operator error. Various parameters are monitored constantly, for example plate current, grid current, high SWR etc. In case of an error the PA automatically switches to stand-by, an error message is displayed. This helps in identifying and isolating the error very quickly. Even more diagnostics can be gathered from the USB port of the amp. RFConcepts offers a free software which allows monitoring and remote control of the Alpha 9500 via the USB connector on the rear.
The amplifier is shipped with the transformer separated, not installed. So it is nescessary to install the transformer before operation. This is not complicated and very nicely documented with pictures. Internal jumper wires allow selection of the mains supply voltage from 100 to 240V AC. Please note that the full output power is only fully reached when using 240V AC.
The connections between Alpha 9500 and transceiver are just a coaxial cable for HF and a PTT keying line. Most current transceivers can key the amp without the help of an external relay. An ALC cable is not required and not supported by the amplifier, because most modern transceivers have a sufficiently precise power control.

Alpha 8410
The Alpha 8410 is a shortwave amplifier, which is tuned manually. The output power is 1500W. This output is produced by a matched pair of twi 4CX1000A (8877) ceramic tetrodes. The two tubes have a common plate disspation power of 2000W.
The Alpha 8410 amp is characterised by a very solid construction. The design with two powerful tubes ensures that the required power is always reached without any effort or any problems. The exciter ccan be any current transceiver, the required driving power is 50 to 65 Watt.
The PTT keying input is suitable for most current transceivers, requiring no additonal keying relay. The amp uses vacuum relays and is capable for FullBK (QSK) keying in telegraphy. The antenna input and output is equipped with PL sockets (SO-239, female).
Numerous protection devices of the Alpha 8410 prevent damages of the amplifier, either by malfunction or operator error. Various parameters are monitored constantly, for example plate current, grid current, high SWR etc. In case of an error the PA automatically switches to stand-by. The reason for the error can be read for example from the USB diagnostic port on the rear. This allows easy and fast identification of a problem.
